Award-winning master double bassist and composer Csaba Pengő received his masters in jazz music at the prestigious Ferenc Liszt Music Academy in 2004. He toured and recorded internationally with several bands over three decades, providing solid bass lines to contemporary, classical, jazz, blues, and global music artists. The variety of styles he played throughout his career all influenced his own musical world, which he beautifully displayed in his first and second solo releases.
His debut album „Circles” wowed audiences and critics alike. Well deservedly, his follow-up album „Autumn Rain in a Secret Garden” was ranked „Album of the Year” at the Netherlands-based Native DSD platform.
We don’t often hear a double bass as the main instrument on an album, but the amazingly unique style of Csaba Pengo glues the listener to the speakers in the very first minute. The live performances of Mr. Pengo take this experience even higher. Without any doubt, he is a true master of his instrument, and his compositions are top-class, exciting, and unmistakably his own. He may be standing alone on a giant arena stage, but his presence is powerful and confident, which, again, shows us: We are dealing with a once in a lifetime talent here.
„…Pengö crée en fait un dialogue avec lui-même lorsqu’il navigue en solo. Un grand contrebassiste. Les figures, canevas et rebondissements se succèdent avec goût, grand soin, une dimension orchestrale très achevée et une préméditation minutieusement élaborée qui convaincra les amoureux de la contrebasse et les autres.”
– Jean – Michel Van Schouwburg, Belgium
„…This is an excellent set of performances on solo double bass, composed and performed by the artist who built the instrument… The compositions are a nice mix of classical, jazz and world music influences synthesized into a very personal set of expressive explorations… Highly recommended!”
